The Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) is listed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service as Threatened in the Mojave Desert in California, Utah, Arizona, and Utah. NoRock Research Zoologist has been studying tortoises since 1989, including translocation as a management technique, effects of livestock grazing on tortoise populations, methods for estimating abundance of tortoises, and, since 2001, assisting the Fish and Wildlife Service with monitoring status and trends of tortoise populations in the Mojave Desert.
